Several years ago I used this thought for an encouragement card but I came across it again while going over some old Bible study notes. I'm sending it again with the prayer that God will impact your heart as He did mine with the awesome Reality.
We've all encountered arrogant people -- arrogant, pompous, self-important, overbearing. But when I think that God became the weakest thing in all of is creation ... a BABY! Oh think with me and meditate and let the wonder take us far beyond the earthbound and the temporary!
It is good for us us to pause often and reflect on the wonder of the Saviour's birth. Mary's Creator was completely dependent on her; yet He was the message of the angels and the hope of the world!
She held Him in her arms and breast-fed Him; He was her Redeemer and she changed His diapers. No wonder Mary's mind was boggled. Even with the whole Bible I'm completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of God's love. I don't begin to comprehend but I rejoice in the victorious truth that it was as MAN that Jesus was higher than the angels, better than Moses and Greater than Melchizedec.
I pray that a fresh sense of wonder and gratitude for "Emmanuel" will light Christmas candles in our hearts. Then we can see that the true Christmas tree is the Cross of Calvary. Emmanuel, our Saviour, restored everything that was lost in Adam, so once again we can share the very life of God. This Infant Whom the shepherds found, this very same One Who nestled His downy head against Mary's shoulder, this precious, little One Whom she comforted when He cried, is the same One Whom Isaiah saw; an Almighty God, a God Whose voice shook the temple, Whose presence filled the temple, a Sovereign God, the building shook at His voice!
Consider again the holiness, power and glory mentioned in Isaiah 6:3-4, and remember ..... This is the very same One Who was made sin for us, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in HIM! (2 Corinthians 5:21) Imputed righteousness makes us fit for God and imparted righteousness enables us to please Him.
O sweet wonder, Jesus, the Son of God!
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. (Revelation 5:12)
