Our incomparable companion

Let us cultivate and grow our relationship with our incomparable Companion

Jesus declared (John 14:6) that He is Life and Truth and then He spoke of the Holy Spirit.  What do we know about the Holy Spirit?  He is (John 4:17) the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Life (Romans 8:2) which is in Christ Jesus, He will (John 16:14) glorify Jesus, He is the Comforter, Counsellor, Teacher and Guide (John 14:16, John 16:13) and He will lead you into all Truth.  He is (John 14:17) in us and with us forever, the mind of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:6) is life and peace both now and forever.  He is essential to us (Luke 24:49) because nothing can be done in our own strength.  He is present (John 7:39) wherever Jesus is glorified.  He will convict the world (John 16:8-11) of sin, righteousness and judgment.  This partial list of the power-filled works of the Holy Spirit is enough to reveal to us how truly incomparable is our Divine Companion and our holy privilege to have Him indwelling us.  Jesus said (John 14:18) I will come back to you.  (Dr. Stanley) “On the Day of Pentecost Jesus came in the Person of the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus told us (Hebrews 13:5) that He would never leave us so we have His personal guarantee that we are (Ephesians 1:13) eternally sealed with the seal of the Holy Spirit.  We are never alone and, no matter the circumstances, we have no need to ever feel lonely if we are depending on and fellowshipping with our Almighty Companion.

(Dr. Stanley) said “We need to check ourselves every day, maybe several times a day, with regard to our surrender to God, our dependence on God, our trust in God and our focus on God.”  I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:27) intercedes for me, edits my prayers, fills in the blanks of my ignorance and presents them in a worthy manner at the Throne of Grace.

(Dr. A.W.Tozer) entitled one of his daily devotionals –“Contemplat-ing the sweet mystery of the Godhead.”  As His creatures it is impossible for us to comprehend (Romans 11:33) the rich depths of God’s wisdom and knowledge or to have understanding of His ways and decisions.  We can see His works and describe and experience, incompletely, His attributes.  For anything we know about any of His attributes, there is a vast world of much more unknowable behind every one.

Only the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:11) knows the deep things of God.  His total greatness is far beyond our comprehension.  He is infinite.  But now - - bow before the God of this mystery.  We who are progressing in knowing Him and longing for deeper knowing and closer intimacy with Him, can be filled and flooded (Ephesians 3:19) with this very same transcendent, sovereign, infinite God Himself.  The very same God Who (Job 26:7) hangs the earth on nothing, the very same God Who (Daniel 2:31-45) revealed Nebuchadnezzar’s dream to Daniel.  I join Dr. Tozer in his invitation because such contemplation is very personally precious and richly rewarding.  So much knowledge of every kind and every quality is available to-day.  But the greatest knowledge you can ever have is knowing God and continually growing in knowing Him better and more fully.  The infinite God desires (Philippians 3:7-10, Hosea 6:6, John 14:8) for us to know Him.  Meditation on God’s Word and time alone with God are essential if we truly desire to increase our knowledge of God and know Him more fully.  Our growing knowledge will continue to develop as sanctification progresses.  Complete honesty before God about our hardships and failures causes God to respond to us by revealing more of Himself and His ways to us.

Of course, you know that for all of this we need the Holy Spirit every inch of the way.  Every time I open my Bible, I ask the Holy Spirit to flood the eyes of my heart with light and (Ephesians 1:18) teach my mind.  I ask Him to adorn my soul with the jewels from the treasure chest of God’s Word which are (Galatians 5:22-23) the fruit of the Holy Spirit.  (Dr. Stanley) “When we get to heaven our minds will be perfect, pure and completely delivered from earthly things.  Then we will fully know God.”  Because then we will be like Jesus.  Meanwhile let’s cultivate and grow our relationship with our incomparable Companion

Because God has a will and a plan and a purpose.  He always has a way.
