Prayer - why is it so vital and essential?

The wondrous miracle of prayer is that I can make the power, will and purpose of God a reality anywhere.

The true, genuine, heart prayer of a Christian who truly knows God is never a personal shopping list.  If I truly love the Lord, His interests will always come first.  As long as I am on earth prayer is my golden connection with heaven.  Prayer is the keys (Matthew 16:19) of the kingdom of heaven which have been given to us.  The Holy Spirit enables me to use the keys to unlock heaven and release its power.  Then through prayer I can bring that power to me away down here on earth and then, through prayer wield kingdom authority all over the world.  Because Sovereign Majesty is enthroned on the Throne of Grace, prayer has eternal significant purpose and every request in accordance with God’s will is granted immediately and will come into being in the perfection of God’s exact timing.  If I am not praying, I will not fulfill God’s purpose for creating me, redeeming me, and placing me where I am at this time.  Prayer (Romans 12:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:17) determines the quality and worth of my life.

Prayer is 24/7 unbroken communion with Almighty God.  Prayer is the breath in my lungs and the blood in my heart which enables me to live in the heart of God, at the nail-pierced feet of Jesus beneath the shadow of the mighty Cross, by the enabling power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.  Prayer makes constant immediate obedience to God in everything, the top priority of my life.  When we (James 3:2) stumble and fall and promptly (1 John 1:7-9) confess, we are completely cleansed and forgiven by the precious Blood of Jesus.  Our forgiven lapse is not a cause for guilt but a reminder for learning.  There are things I can’t do and places I can’t go but if God tells me to do or go, the power to obey is in the very words of His command.  The Son of God created (Luke 2:7) the humanity of Jesus in which to clothe Himself.  He can clothe you and me with Jesus for a life (Colossians 3:3) that is hidden with Christ in God. Jesus said (John 14:12) greater works (Oswald Chambers) “Prayer does not fit us to do greater works - - prayer is the greater works but remember that prayer is based on the agony of redemption, not on my concerns and pain”.  Prayer is a stupendous gift to me because of its horrendous cost.  I can only be of use to God where I am, certainly not where I am not.  In God’s sovereign control He engineers my moments, my days and all the details of my circumstances and my duty is to pray at all times in blessed fellowship with Him.

It makes no difference to my golden connection with heaven whether I am praying for a person or situation across the hall, across the street or across the ocean.  I have been given (John 1:7) God’s authority to become the daughter of God and therefore I have the royal power to exercise the authority of His kingdom.  Prayer is the greater works, greater than anything I could do because I cannot travel to the many locations for which I pray - - even if I could do anything.  The wondrous miracle of prayer is that I can make the power, will and purpose of God a reality anywhere as I continue to partner in prayer with the Holy Spirit.  Only the Lord Jesus can transform the bad to good, the panic to peace, the darkness to light etc. so I continue to pray as directed by the Holy Spirit, Who, never stops patiently teaching and guiding.

Don’t put off this God-given lifestyle until tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes.  When tomorrow actually comes, it has already become to-day and we don’t know if we have even one more to-day waiting in the wings.

We can safely and with full confidence (Hebrews 4:16) trust the Lord for everything always, at all times and in all circumstances.  Even our aging bodily functions are in the control of the loving hand of our all-wise Master Who created them in their original condition.  No matter what, my prayer is that at all times, everywhere and in everything, prayer will be the continued reality of my existence on earth.  That my communion with my glorious Lord will be uninterrupted and unceasing so that whatever comes and whatever remains to me of my lifetime will be my prayer time.  The precious sweetness and riches and privilege (Philippians 3:8) of such an indescribable relationship with the Almighty Sovereign of the universe, Who is our own loving heavenly Father, is priceless beyond telling.  Hold close to your heart the selfless beauty of God’s love and it will fill your life with its fragrance.
