We come from the sombre and muted tones of a dying Autumn to the chilling blast and icy grip of Winter.

As this year draws to a close, it is natural for us to look back and ponder. Other bygone years come to mind as well and often we reflect mostly on the disappointments those years have brought, the unfulfilled dreams and our grief over the loved ones those years have taken. Then we look forward to the coming year with its promise and its uncertainty. Sometimes it seems as if the only certainty is uncertainty. And our thoughts wander down a shadow-filled pathway.

Let us step away from that mindset.

In looking back .... let us reflect on the glorious accomplishments of the right hand of the Most High; let us rejoice that our yesterdays are behind us and our sin is under the Blood forever.

As we look to a new year .... let us inhale deeply the assurance in the words of Isa.30:18,

from the Amplified Bible: The Lord earnestly waits -- expectant, looking and longing to be gracious to you, and therefore He lifts Himself up that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you, for the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed -- happy, fortunate, to be envied are all those who earnestly wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him, for His victory, His favour, His love, His peace, His joy and His matchless, unbroken companionship.

Doesn't that sound like abundant equipment to take us through another year, not somehow but triumphantly?

We can safely leave the irreparable past in His hands and confidently step out into the irresistible future with Him. Let us remember that the path gets brighter all the way Home (Proverbs 4:18).

Spring will come; a sure harbinger of RESURRECTION!
