Starting this day God has given to me
I’m starting this day with Jesus,
I am wrapping myself in this wonderful day
And I’m giving this day back to Jesus.
Jesus said (MAT.11:29) Take My yoke and learn of Me and you will find rest. Nice sentimental thought for a dreamy soul, don’t you think?
Is that all there is in these Living Words spoken by the Living Truth Himself? Let’s go mining - - let’s dig deep into these words and search for hidden treasures to enrich our lives.
I agree with Dr. Tozer that our all-powerful God has all power, controls all power and there is no power apart from Him. It doesn’t matter what it is – electricity, earthquake, raising Christ from the dead or anything else, there is no other source of power. Even the power to do evil must first have come from God. This jarred me, even though I believe it. I was deeply troubled – I couldn’t get my mind around it. I asked the Lord to show me what was missing. We have heard it said that certain people abuse their power. That would not be possible if there were two sources of power – one good and one evil. Whatever a person did would depend on his chosen source of power, so if he acted accordingly, he would not be abusing his power.
Sometimes it shocks me at my ripe old age to see how much I still have to learn. Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? Am I so proud I think I’ve learned it all? Not really, but I am trying to see the truth of humility. I was praying daily that the Lord would make me humble. Was I mixing humility up with spiritual gifts? Was I expecting a dark gray cloak to float down from Heaven and envelop me to prove that I was finally humble? Suddenly the gracious Holy Spirit startled me with a fresh insight. Being humble is not something I pray for but something I choose. See if you agree with me on the thoughts that came from just a few of the many verses I dug into.
The guards saw a MAN walking right through the huge stone, out of the tomb which still had its seal unbroken.
Do you have a prayer list? You have been told that you should pray and you feel guilty if you don’t. You breathe a sigh of relief (secretly) when you finish because that’s off your plate for to-day. But there is still to-morrow and you will repeat the same old words in the same old way with little or no expectation that anything will happen. No wonder your thoughts wander. You are so bored it is only natural.
If we can grasp this truth and make it our personal – deep down – inside REALITY we will have an unshakeable, unwavering faith in Almighty God - - no matter what!!!
I the Lord have spoken it (EZK.17:24, 22:14) and I will do it.
There are wonderful history books that tell us of ancient facts, such as - - world empires – Assyeria – Egypt – Babylon – Medo-Persia – Greece – Rome. They can describe for us the tombs of the pharaohs and the pyramids of Egypt – the hanging gardens of Babylon – the enduring roads built by Romans – terrible wars and brilliant military leaders - - and much more - - BUT - - they cannot tell us the meaning of life or why we are here.
I had finished eating my breakfast cereal and was drinking my tea. I was trying to remember the names of Sennacherib’s two sons who murdered him. Suddenly – unexpectedly and light years away from the Assyrian king – the Lord dropped a verse into my head. He said (JN.7:39) the Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified. Yes, I know that the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost - - after the resurrection – after the Ascension – after the celebration in Heaven for the Mighty Conqueror Who had totally triumphed over the devil, the flesh and the world and rent the veil from top to bottom. Who was that? The MAN Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
