WHAT ABOUT OUR OLD SIN NATURE?

Now sin has lost its grip on me,

          Forever Christ enthroned in me,

For all my needs – whether huge or small,

Jesus is my ALL in all.

FIRE

It was as if I could see them standing there, the three of them, and they looked radiant.  I thought I should go over and express my sympathy for all that they had endured.  I tried to imagine the horror of their demon-driven enemies, the suffocating smoke, the bone-melting heat, the searing flames and haltingly I endeavoured to speak of it.

FORGIVE

Luke 23:34 -- "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

Like you, I've read this verse many times.  Always I'm impressed by the selfless beauty of Jesus in being willing to forgive His vicious persecutors.  But this time I was struck by the pain as I realized, more deeply, that there can never be true forgiveness without pain.

I HAVE TO SHARE WHAT'S IN MY BOWL

Sometimes my mind feels like a bowl which is so full that it is going to overflow.  I don’t want to lose any of the nuggets so I’d like to share some of my manna with you.  God the Holy Spirit is such a wonderful, loving, patient Teacher and Guide as He unfolds the sacred wonders of the holy Scriptures and takes us deeper into unsuspected treasures even in familiar verses.

GIVING

What does it do to a missionary who is already in adverse circumstances, in enemy territory, cut off from family and friends, subject to danger, disease and discouragement, to be told that their living allowance is being cut?

PAGES OF GRACE
Sometimes when the Holy Spirit directs me to write a meditation I can’t think of a suitable title. So I ask the Lord and He never fails to tell me - such as – Rahab has something to tell you – I wonder why I don’t wonder more – The CUP – What is your bowl of soup? – When God sets a table – Compelling beauty and mystery – I still travel and many more. At other times I get the title first. Early this morning about 4 a.m. 3 words rooted themselves in my mind – Pages of Grace – then Scripture verses and other thoughts were right at their heels.

WAVE SHEAF AND RESURRECTION
The first of the grain harvest (Leviticus 23:10-11) was to be taken to the priest and he would wave the sheaf before the Lord. The firstfruits were the evidence of a bountiful harvest. Waving the sheaf before the Lord was an acknowledgement of what God had done and an expression of gratitude.

EXPECT TO BE DEFEATED IF YOU ARE NOT PROPERLY DRESSED
Paul’s travels took him 10,000 miles on foot plus many more miles by sea. We continue to profit by the same Good News which God revealed to him and he made known throughout the world. He had seen many Roman soldiers and uses their battle garb as an example of (Ephesians 6:11-18) our spiritual armour. Why must we dress for war? If we do not know that the Christion life is warfare we are easy prey for Satan as we blindly wander into enemy territory. If we are living a self-pleasing carnal life the devil has many enticing (Ephesians 6:11) wiles to attract and distract us from reality. If we are determined to obey God so that by the Holy Spirit’s power Jesus will live His Life in and through us – then we can expect (1 Peter 5:8) the roaring lion to attack. Someone has said - - if you do not know that the Christian life is war – then you do not know what prayer is for.

ARE WE GIVING GOD THE PLEASURE OF WHICH HE IS WORTHY?
I was having breakfast and talking to the Lord, as usual, about whatever is on my mind. I was thinking again about dinosaurs, mastodons and sabre tooth tigers. I know God has a purpose for everything but I was still wondering why. Then the Lord dropped part of a verse (Revelation 4:11) into my thoughts, “Thou hast created – and for Thy pleasure created”.

A PURLOINED TUNE
Have I told you lately that I love You
Precious thoughts of Jesus fill my mind
Have I said with all my heart and soul that I adore You
And all things in Jesus I find
________
Have I told You lately that I love You
When You bring Your stars out in the sky
Lord I worship You – You are transcendent far above me
Yet still my Father and always so nigh
